In the 1960s, transgender women could be found in Pigalle, Paris, a safe haven for expression during de Gaulle’s ban on transgender communities. These women were famously photographed by Swedish photographer Christer Strömholm in Les Amies de Place Blanche.

This body of work, as well as others, can be found in Post Scriptum, the largest monograph to date on one of Sweden’s most famous photographers, Christer Strömholm. Founder of the legendary photography school Fotoskolan in Stockholm in 1962, he was one of the first Swedish photographers to attain international prominence.
